Funding on the agenda at Wheels to Work Conference

2nd February 2017

The Wheels to Work Association national conference is taking place today in London.

Schemes from across the UK will meet to share experiences and best practice, in order to help increase sustainability and efficiency.  Funding is also likely to be a priority topic.

The winners and losers of local authority ‘Access Funding’ were announced last week. Some schemes were successful in their bids, while others were not. This means funding could be an issue for the long term survival of some schemes.

Delegates will also hear the latest from the Wheels to Work Association Blue Sky Group, which is working on ideas to secure the future of affordable transport.

Wheels to Work schemes dramatically lift the prospects of young people who have no access to public or private transport to get them to work, college or apprenticeship training.  They loan a small scooter or motorcycle to those usually aged between 16 and 25.

They are particularly important to people living or working in rural areas, where there is little or no public transport, and where cycling or walking is not practical.  They are also run in some urban areas, where there is need.
