Realising the motorcycling opportunity


The Motorcycle Industry Association (MCIA) and National Police Chiefs’ Council (NPCC) have launched a joint policy document: Realising the Motorcycling Opportunity; A motorcycle safety and transport policy framework.

Timeline to the framework

November 2013 - The MCIA and the NPCC held a joint conference in response to the slowdown in the reduction of rider casualties.  They invited other stakeholders to discuss the proposition that ‘More motorcycles could reduce casualties’. This in turn led to the development of a motorcycle safety framework.

December 2014 - The MCIA and NPCC launched a landmark document for consultation: Realising the Motorcycling Opportunity; A motorcycle safety and transport policy framework.

March 2015 - Following a period of consultation with road safety stakeholders, the framework was made public.

Realising the Motorcycling Opportunity; A motorcycle safety and transport policy framework calls for national and local transport planners and all those involved in road safety to engage with motorcycles in mainstream transport planning, setting out a series of actions as to how this can best be achieved.
