MCIA Encourages Social Distancing

23 March 2020

The current health emergency is a great opportunity for exploiting the many advantages of PTWs and MCIA is heavily promoting these to Government and beyond.

We are highlighting the aspects of social distancing that PTWs offer, as well as the vital role they play in getting key workers to their employment, delivering medical supplies to hospitals, food to front-line workers and ease of access (via CBT) during the Test Centre closure period.  As ever, we want to take every opportunity to cement the positives about bikes and scooters into minds that are often fed negative connotations.

However, following one of the first fine weekends of the riding season, we have had a number of negative reinforcements reported, ranging from arguments between a group of congregating bikers and local residents who wanted them to maintain social distance, to riders using the lightly populated roads as race tracks and taking risks that could result in them avoidably occupying a hospital bed.

This is a request that we would be unlikely to make in “normal” times, but in the interests of pushing positive news, MCIA encourages social distancing of riding bikes and scooters whenever possible.

Thanks for your anticipated support.

Stay safe.
