Accreditation Information

Committed to higher quality motorcycle training

MCIA RIDE accreditation represents a commitment to delivering higher quality motorcycle training, business management and professional standards. It raises accredited schools to a higher level of professionalism, gives assurances to training school customers that they are in good hands and are guaranteed a quality assured training experience.

To be trained by an MCIA accredited training school is to be trained by some of the best in the industry, and given the correlation between quality training and reduced accident risk, to be trained by some of the best makes good sense.

Accreditation is not just about what can be seen or experienced directly. It goes well beyond the standard of a training school’s motorcycles, kit, premises and instructor qualifications - extending to all aspects of business and training school management.

To be accredited gives peace of mind that all essential policies, procedures, records, checks, contingencies and insurances are fully in place. The levels of training, assessment and scrutiny required to reach a ‘grade’ that is high enough for MCIA accreditation ensures that in all respects, a training school is operating to the highest possible standards. We believe this to be a worthwhile endeavour and one that takes the ‘lottery’ out of choosing a training school.

Moving away from cost competitive strategies

Accreditation empowers training schools to differentiate and compete in a more valid and meaningful way. It has long been acknowledged that to compete on price is extremely business-limiting and a strategy that results in fast eroding standards of motorcycle training.

Given the direct impact this can have on rider safety and the corners that can be cut as a result, we believe that raising standards through accreditation is finally allowing training schools to increase their prices to levels that are more commensurate with the safety-focussed service being provided.

On average, MCIA RIDE schools charge more for their training than non-MCIA accredited schools, which in turn is good for the industry and beneficial to our customers. Having justification to raise prices can yield improved profits, which in turn allows business reinvestment leading to increasing standards and reversing the business rot that results from downward spiralling cost-competition.

MCIA RIDE accreditation sets a different standard and as such, has been endorsed by the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA).

Accountable to higher standards

MCIA RIDE (formerly MCIAC) has been an Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI) approved Accreditation Centre since June 2013. The IMI visit MCIA RIDE annually to ensure that we continue to meet their stringent standards, so you can be sure that courses and quality assurance regimes are both relevant and robust.

MCIA RIDE delivers high quality training for both DVSA Approved Training Bodies (ATBs) and their certified instructors and are ISO 9001:2015 registered.

The IMI is the UK’s leading awarding body for the retail motor industry, who partner with expert working groups to ensure IMI industry-recognised qualifications and programmes are relevant and sector-specific. Recognised by governments and education authorities around the world, IMI qualifications and programmes are available at centres in Europe, the Middle East, China and South East Asia. This commitment by IMI to high standards and professionalism aligns perfectly to the MCIA RIDE accreditation scheme.
