July 2026 L-Category (Scooters, Motorcycles & other light vehicles) New Vehicle Registrations

MCIA has today published the new vehicle registration numbers for the L-Category vehicle sector for the month of July.

This includes Mopeds, Scooters, Motorcycles and other categories within the wider L-Category vehicle types.

The total market in July 2026 ended with clear signs of growth, up 17.5% when compared with the same month in 2025, and a year-to-date increase of 15.6%.

July’s figures point to broad-based growth across the market last month, with Motorcycle registrations rising by 18.5% with a year-to-date increase of 16.1%. All Scooter registrations has also seen a solid increase with registrations up by 6.9% in July and 15.4% year-to-date.

Adventure bikes continued their strong performance, with registrations up 41.8% in July and 26.2% year-to-date. Naked styles also recorded solid growth, increasing by 24.5% in the month, while the touring segment witnessed its first month of growth increasing by 18.2%.

Tony Campbell, CEO of MCIA, said: “July’s market reinforces the important role mopeds, motorcycles and other L-Category vehicles play here in the UK, with demand remaining positive despite ongoing economic challenges for both consumers and businesses.

“With a new leadership at the helm of Government, we are working to ensure that the sectors’ needs are supported and the Government responds positively to the on-going rider licence review.  

“A renewed focus on transport, access and mobility from this Government is welcomed but for this opportunity to be fully realised, mopeds, motorcycles and other L-Category vehicles must be central to the conversation.

“To build on this growth, our sector needs Government action now so L-Category vehicles remain a reliable and accessible transport solution for people and communities across the UK.”
