November 2024 L-Category (Scooters, Motorcycles & other light vehicles) New Vehicle Registrations

November 2024 L-Category (Scooters, Motorcycles & other light vehicles) New Vehicle Registrations

MCIA have today published the new vehicle market data for the month of November 2024.

This includes Mopeds, Scooters, Motorcycles and other L-Category vehicle segments.

New registrations for November closed at a positive 9.7% compared to November 2023 equalling a market volume growth of just over 600 registrations. Whilst on face value this is a significant improvement compared to the previous few months; it is likely this growth is a direct result of aggressive market activity as we lead up to the year end.

Year to date 2024 continues to fall behind the previous year where the market year to date is currently tracking at minus 2.9%.

Motorcycle Live was another resounding success where the event welcomed 90,000 visitors who were immersed in the festival vibe, seeing. listening and enjoying an amazing day out full of entertainment and exciting new products.

Tony Campbell, CEO of MCIA, said: “Whilst the market has shown some improvement, we must not be fooled, this month has witnessed further dealer closures and some worrying news regarding a major European manufacturer facing some financial challenges.

As the New Labour Government press the reset button this week, I hope they have realised their early policies are not having the desired effect on the economy, quite the opposite. It is clear, consumer confidence is low, and businesses are now having to re-think plans for the future as a direct result of the changes to national insurance and minimum wage.

We are calling on this Government to think carefully on what is needed to support our sector, which is able to offer so much to the UK economy, and the wider decarbonisation objectives. As we see the automotive sector grappling with the ZEV mandate, we urge Government not to make similar mistakes with the scooter, motorcycle and wider L-Category sector that currently contributes less than 0.5% of the carbon emissions from transport. The scooter, motorcycle and wider powered light vehicle sector is an important part of the future of transport solution”
