April 2025 L-Category (Scooters, Motorcycles & other light vehicles) New Vehicle Registrations

MCIA has today published the new vehicle market data for the month of April 2025. This includes mopeds, scooters, motorcycles and some other specific sectors of the wider L-Category vehicle types.
New registrations for the month of April have shown some signs of improvement compared to Q1 albeit still negative at minus 14.6%. This improvement in April reduces the year-to-date market decline to a minus 22.8% from an end of Q1 25.8%.
Monitoring the market closely, it remains evident that there are still high stocks of unsold pre-registered bikes from the end of 2024 which will no doubt be impacting new sales. Feedback from MCIA members and their franchised retailers remains relatively positive caveated by the need of continued fair weather and a steady improvement in the economy.
Tony Campbell, CEO of MCIA, said: “As we enter the initial months of the main selling season, it is encouraging to see the April market improve albeit not to the degree we would like. Pre-registered stock remains high and until these units are retailed it is likely we will experience continued market distortion in addition to a natural decline.
Looking forward to the months ahead and the news that the Bank of England interest rates are likely to be reduced, we hope this will install some confidence both in the market and end customer. The next few months sales will be critical to the full year, and we hope that the long muted licence review will be announced by the Minister in the coming weeks”
