March 2025 L-Category (Scooters, Motorcycles & other light vehicles) New Vehicle Registrations

MCIA has today published the new vehicle market data for the month of March 2025, this includes Mopeds, Scooters, Motorcycles and other L-Category vehicle types.

New registrations for March whilst still negative compared to 2024, are now showing excellent signs for recovery closing the month at -22.1%, comparing this to January and February which were both over 30% negative compared to 2024.

Stand out performances in the market are road registered Competition Bikes which were only 3.1% down, and Modern Classics, which are an increasingly important segment, down to -10%. Electric power trains also made a strong recovery in March closing the month at 5.1% down, significantly improving the year up until the end of February.

Tony Campbell, CEO of MCIA, said: “As we move into the main selling season, the March market has started to show the expected signs of recovery, as the pre-registered stock starts to sell through the networks.

Looking ahead to April (and with the weather on our side), we forecast the new bike market to return close to the volumes seen in previous years, provided the unfolding trade war does not worsen over the next few weeks.

Consumer confidence is already low, and with the added economic uncertainty worsening by decisions being taken across the pond, it is difficult to predict how our sector and market will eventually react.

The Motorcycle market has historically performed well during challenging economic times as it provides affordable mobility and attracts a loyal and passionate customer base.
We are calling on the UK Government to make every effort possible to secure a speedy, workable trade arrangement with the U.S so as to avoid further damage to the wider economy”
