MCIA publishes Powered Light Vehicle Manifesto: Propelling Britain Towards Global Leadership in Sustainable Powered Light Mobility

The Motorcycle Industry Association (MCIA) has today published its Powered Light Vehicle Manifesto, presenting the next government with a once-in-a-generation opportunity to turbocharge its £7 billion industry for the benefit of all.

The Manifesto calls on every political party to champion initiatives that position Britain at the forefront of a powered light mobility revolution which includes, scooters, motorcycles & light three and four wheeled vehicles.

It serves as a blueprint for leveraging powered light vehicles (PLVs) to accelerate the journey towards net zero and modernise our transportation network.

With five policy recommendations, it aims to make Britain the prime destination for manufacturing, buying, selling, and utilising PLVs.

The Manifesto calls on the next government to:

1. Accelerate the Road to Net Zero: Support policies that harness PLVs’ potential in achieving net zero, embracing a range of technologies and fuels available to the industry.

2. Simplify Licensing, Training, and Testing: Initiate a full-scale review of the existing licensing regime to enhance accessibility and uptake of PLVs.

3. Reclaim Britain as the Home of Motorcycle Manufacturing: Develop the component and systems supply chain to position Britain as a global leader in low and zero emission PLV manufacturing.

4. Make PLVs More Attractive: Introduce a bespoke PLV consumer incentives package to boost PLV adoption among users and businesses.

5. Modernise PLV Regulations: Initiate a comprehensive regulatory review to promote greater consumer choice, facilitate market access, and foster innovation for the inevitable evolution of mobility products that are fit for the future.

With an average of 5,400 users per constituency, MCIA is urging all Prospective Parliamentary Candidates (PPCs) to sign the Powered Light Vehicle Pledge, showcasing their support for riders and drivers of PLV’s and businesses in their constituencies.

MCIA CEO, Tony Campbell said: “The Powered Light Vehicle Manifesto presents an unparalleled opportunity for the next government to drive modal shift away from vans and cars, accelerate to net zero, improve road safety, create high-paid manufacturing jobs, and shape the transport network of the future.

As representatives of over 95% of the industry, we remain poised to work with the next government to drive innovation, economic growth, and job creation on top of the 55,000 this sector already sustains. With full & proper implementation, our Manifesto promises to bolster our £7 billion sector for the benefit of all.”
